Local SEO in Norway: visibility in Google Maps and local search
September 16, 2026 · Alin Digital

Local SEO helps a business be understood in a geographic context. For companies that win customers from a defined area, that can include ordinary organic results, Google Maps and local results. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence.
There is no legitimate way to pay Google for better local organic ranking, and no method can guarantee first place. The work should therefore be systematic, useful and measurable.
Google Business Profile is a core starting point
- Verify the business and use the correct real-world name.
- Use the address or service area that reflects how the business actually operates.
- Choose relevant categories without claiming services you do not provide.
- Keep opening hours, phone, website and other details current.
- Use authentic images and respond professionally to reviews.
Your website must support the local profile
A Business Profile does not replace a clear website. Service pages should explain what the company does and contact information should be easy to find. If Bergen is a genuine market, the location can be mentioned naturally in titles, copy and contact information where it helps visitors.
Avoid mass-producing near-identical city pages where only the city name changes. Such pages provide little value if the business cannot demonstrate genuine local relevance.
Local mentions, links and reviews
Prominence is partly about how established a business appears. Relevant mentions and links from trustworthy local or industry websites can be useful when earned naturally. For reviews, build a consistent and honest process rather than buying or fabricating them.
Structured data can clarify business information
Google supports LocalBusiness structured data. It can help search engines understand business details such as name and address, but markup does not guarantee higher ranking or a specific rich result. The data should be valid and match information visible to users.
How to measure local SEO
- Track relevant queries and landing pages in Google Search Console.
- Review Business Profile performance data when available.
- Separate branded and non-branded demand where practical.
- Measure real enquiries and qualified leads, not only impressions.
