Keyword research for Norwegian businesses: from intent to content plan
September 16, 2026 · Alin Digital

Keyword research is not a list containing as many keywords as possible. It is a method for understanding what the audience is trying to accomplish, which page should satisfy that need, and how to avoid several pages competing for the same primary intent.
For Norwegian businesses, the analysis should combine real Search Console data, language variations, commercial relevance and what the company can genuinely deliver.
Start with intent, not volume alone
- Informational: the user wants to learn or understand.
- Commercial investigation: the user is comparing approaches or providers.
- Transactional: the user is close to taking a specific action.
- Navigational/brand: the user is looking for a specific business or page.
Third-party volume estimates can be useful, but they are estimates. Search Console shows actual visibility for your property in Google Search. Use first-party data when available and label external estimates clearly.
Create one clear page per primary intent
An SEO service page should satisfy commercial service intent. An article explaining how an SEO audit works can target a more informational need. When two pages have the same main goal and near-identical content, the information architecture becomes less clear.
Build a simple keyword map
- List the most important services and solutions.
- Pull real queries from Search Console when data exists.
- Group queries that share the same or very similar intent.
- Choose one primary landing page for each group.
- Plan supporting articles for narrower questions.
- Add relevant internal links from supporting content to the main page.
Treat Norwegian and English as real user experiences
Direct translation can work when the underlying need is the same, but language and search behaviour can differ. A Norwegian page should read naturally in Norwegian, while an English page should be a genuine English resource—not merely a language filter pointing to identical content.
What should you avoid?
- Keyword stuffing in titles, headings and anchor text.
- Creating many thin pages simply because a tool lists related terms.
- Presenting estimated search volume as verified Google data.
- Changing strategy every week based on small movements in average position.
